Los Angeles 1932

40 Olympic and 16 World records were broken at the Pacific coast (July 30 - August 14). Because of the high travel cost relatively small number of athletes participated - 1,408 (127 women) from 37 nations. The idea for accommodating all participants in an Olympic village was realized for the first time in Los Angeles. Also for the first time the Games were held at a stadium like the LA Coliseum with capacity for 105,000 spectators and for first time playing of national anthems to honour winners. Most medals were taken by the USA - 104 (41  gold).
